New York City celebrated the initiation of “The Pandas Are Coming to NYC” project with a Panda Ball gala event at the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel.  The event was lead and sponsored by Mr. Maurice R. (“Hank”) Greenberg, Chairman of the Starr FoundationMr. John A. Catsimatidis, Chairman of the Red Apple Group; Yue-Sai Kan, Emmy Award winner and acclaimed Chinese TV personality; Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney and the Chinese Cultural Foundation.

Ambassador Zhang Qiyue represented China at Mr. Greenberg’s head table.  The event, which was oversold, attracted some of New York’s most prominent business and political leaders.  The Panda Project has been endorsed by New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, New York City Mayor, Bill De Blasio and top business, cultural, political and philanthropic representatives from both the American and Chinese communities.

In their filmed remarks, Mr. Greenberg, Mr. Catsimatidis, Ms. Yue-Sai Kan, and Ms. Carolyn Maloney all spoke of how this wonderful project of bringing two Giant Panda Cubs to Central Park in New York City will be a demonstration of the great good-will that exists between New York and China, and with bring much happiness and entertainment to children and adults alike, both from New York and abroad who will contribute to the excitement and economic vibrancy of New York City.
